Germany (Radolfzell)
Being a ringing scheme without any coastal areas the top ten list of bird species is dominated by landbirds: Great Tit, Blue Tit, Barn Swallow, Kestrel, Barn Ownl, Little Owl, White Stork, Reed Warbler, Blackcap and Black-headed Gull. One larger subset of the contributed data was collected during more than 40 years of standardized songbird ringing on important autumn stopover sites in the framework of the “Mettnau-Reit-Illmitz Program” and another large subset consists of ring recovery data of White Storks during their rapid recovery over the last few decades. The Centre for Animal marking “Vogelwarte Radolfzell”, as we are called today, is part of the same department of the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour that also hosts the tracking database “Movebank” and there are multiple links between both.
We thank our current 400 mostly volunteer bird ringers, their helpers and all their far more than 1,000 predecessors that helped to assemble the current impressive dataset. Ever since the restart of the scheme after the Second World War, the Max Planck Society has generously funded the work of the ringing scheme.
