Montenegro

Center for Protection and Research of Birds (CZIP) is an Euring member from 2015 but ringing in Montenegro started in 2014 at Mareza ringing station that is part of the protected area of Zeta river. Besides Mareza, the ringing was conducted at Šasko lake and Buljarica (Ramsar sites). The main focus of the scheme, for now, is to improve ringing through the activities and education of students and interested people and build up capacities for future ringing. This is the way for taking part in data collecting and contributing.

Ringing in Montenegro was periodically conducted to 2015 and from that period until 2021, through CZIP activities we manage to ring almost 7,000 birds from over 70 species which is not a high number compared to other Euring members, but it is noticeable that the number of ringed birds has exponentially increased through the years and that we have managed to popularize this kind of bird research among schools and students to which witness big numbers of visitors at camps. Ringing is conducted through seasonal activities at spring and autumn camps with more educational purposes. In the future, the focus will be to increase the number of ringers and ringing days.

Beside bird ringing, the scheme is conducting telemetry research where we manage to track migratory and non-migratory birds such as Short-toed Snake eagle, Glossy Ibis, Rock Partridges, Western Capercaillie etc.
