Dunnocks breed in variety of scrub and woodland/ forest habitats with dense undergrowth, from sea level to the upper tree line. In W Europe they often occupy hedges, farm woodland, suburban and urban gardens (Hatchwell 2020). Widely distributed from the British Isles & the Iberian Peninsula to the Ural Mts, with the highest abundance in W & C Europe (Keller et al. 2020). Intra-European migrant - high-latitude populations are migratory, while those from mid- and lower latitudes are partially migratory, altitudinal migrants or resident.
